Show moreIn other words electronic power steering, is a common part of every modern car. This was not always the case, even as late as in the 1990s the absence of power steering was quite common. The main function of fully electric power steering (EPS) is to reduce the driver's power required to control the vehicle's steering wheel. However, this is not the only advantage of power steering. Another undisputable advantage is the decrease in driver fatigue. In the case of power steering, it is also possible to speak of facilitating the steering of the vehicle in the event of a defect. Nowadays, electronic power steering can also turn the steering wheel while parking, thus further increasing driving safety, especially in critical situations where the driver indicates by steering wheel which direction to turn to solve a given crisis situation. The required force is generated by an electronically controlled electric motor. The driver generates torque, which is sensed by a torsion bar with a torque sensor, and at the same time the speed is sensed. The given instructions are evaluated by the control unit, which controls the electric motor. The auxiliary torque generated by the electric motor is transmitted via the worm shaft to the steering wheel shaft and the steering rack gearbox.
