Hydrodynamic torque converters for MERCEDES-BENZ B-CLASS

A hydrodynamic torque converter for vehicles of the brand MERCEDES-BENZ B-CLASS, also known as a torque converter for short, allows torque to be transferred between the engine and the automatic transmission. The energy of the fluid flowing through the converter is used to transfer the kinetic energy of the engine. Its design reduces torsional vibrations, which improves driving comfort at low speeds.

The torque converter transfers power to the driven axle of the vehicle. The torque converter consists of the following four parts: the pump, the turbine, the stator and the converter lock-up clutch.

The benefits of a hydrodynamic torque converter are: traction from zero speed, elimination of shock and vibration caused by the engine, reduction of wheel slip during hard starts and smooth running. Thanks to the design of the hydrodynamic torque converter, there is no need to disengage when stopping. On the other hand, its disadvantages include slip losses that lead to higher fuel consumption. For this reason, the hydraulic converter is 'locked' at certain speeds by means of a friction clutch.
